A fabulous pair of mid-century drop earrings consisting of polished black onyx thorns topped with a sparkling crown of diamonds with further onyx stones and diamonds stacked up to the hooks at the top.
Onyx is a form of chalcedony, distinct for its jet-black colouring and white bands. Historically it was worn as a protective talisman that was said to bring courage in dark times and became increasingly popular in the Victorian era when black mourning attire was at the height of fashion.
The hooks and settings are fashioned in platinum and are wonderfully ornate with milgrain edging and open, geometric patterning. They certainly make a statement and would be perfect for a glamorous evening do.
